This is NGC 5128, a peculiar lenticular galaxy in the constellation Centaurus. Distance is about 11Mly.

This image is a stack of 70 images of 5 seconds duration through the Evans 30 telescope at Linden Observatory on the 3rd December 2013 at 2am.

This is NGC 5128 with the supernova SN2016adj showing in the central dust lane of the galaxy.  The SN is indicated by the two lines.  The image quality is not as good as the first image for several reasons - the site was much lower in altitude and in greater light pollution; and the telescope was of much smaller aperture.
